BizKid Workshop # 2: Preparing for Your First Pop-Up Market
This beginner-friendly workshop series is designed for youth who want to start a small business and work toward selling their products or services at a community marketplace event in December.
Our second workshop will help new BizKids prepare for their first pop-up marketplace! Youth will learn how to price their products, create eye-catching displays, and practice their sales pitches as they get ready to sell at a community event in December.
This hands-on session builds on our October workshop, moving beyond business ideas and planning to the practical skills needed to operate a vendor booth.
What Will You Learn?
During this workshop, students will:
Opportunity for $100 in Startup Funding!
Thanks to a grant from Amazon Web Services (AWS), two students from our fall workshop cohort will be selected to receive a $100 investment to help launch their businesses.
To be eligible, students must attend both the October 24 and November 14 workshops, develop a basic business plan, and submit a short funding application.
Funding is limited, and attendance does not guarantee an award.
Who Should Attend?
This workshop is designed primarily for new BizKids preparing to sell at their first pop-up marketplace.
Students who attended our October introductory workshop are encouraged to continue developing their businesses through this second session.
Youth who already have a business idea or products ready to sell are also welcome, even if they did not attend Workshop #1.
What Ages Can Participate?
The workshop is intended for youth ages 10–18. Each cohort includes a mix of ages, sometimes more teens and sometimes more preteens.
Don't let the age range discourage your youth from joining! Our goal is to create a welcoming environment where young entrepreneurs can learn from one another, regardless of their experience level.
We'll tailor activities and instruction to participants' ages and group students with peers of similar ages whenever possible.
What Comes Next?
December 2026 — Community Pop-Up Marketplace
Our goal is for participating BizKids to put their new skills into action by selling their products or services at a community marketplace event in December, usually the City of Hayward's Light up the Season event.
Students will have an opportunity to apply what they've learned about pricing, displays, marketing, and customer service in a real-world setting.
Additional details about marketplace opportunities and registration will be shared with participating families as soon as they are confirmed with the City of Hayward.
