BizKid Fall 2026 Workshop #1

Saturday, October 24, 2026 (2:30 PM - 3:30 PM) (PDT)

Description

BizKid Workshop # 1: Introduction to Pop-Up Marketplace Selling

This beginner-friendly workshop is designed for youth who want to start a small business and work toward selling their products or services at a community marketplace event in December.

Our goal is to help students develop a business idea, create a plan, and take the first steps toward participating in a pop-up marketplace event in December.

  • Please register youth as the participant. Parents and guardians are welcome to stay, but do not need to register separately.
  • Register each youth separately. If you're signing up more than participant (siblings, friends, etc.), please complete a separate registration for each participant.

What Will You Learn?

During this one-hour workshop, students will:

  • Explore business ideas: Brainstorm products or services they might enjoy selling.
  • Set goals
  • Develop a plan: Identify the supplies, resources, and steps needed to get started.
  • Get feedback: Share their ideas and receive encouragement and suggestions.
  • Meet experienced BizKids: Hear from young entrepreneurs who have already sold at community marketplaces.
  • Discover community resources: Learn about tools and resources, including the Hayward Library Makerspace, that can help bring their ideas to life.

Opportunity for $100 in Startup Funding!

Thanks to a grant from Amazon Web Services (AWS), two students from our fall workshop cohort will be selected to receive a $100 investment to help launch their business.

To be eligible, students must attend both the October and November workshops, develop a basic business plan, and submit a short funding application.

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is designed especially for first-time sellers who want to participate in a pop-up marketplace but don't yet have a business plan, products, or supplies.

Students who already have a business or experience selling at markets are welcome, but may find our November workshop, which focuses on pricing, booth setup, and sales pitches, more helpful.

What Ages Can Participate?

The workshop is intended for youth ages 10–18. Each cohort includes a mix of ages, sometimes more teens and sometimes more preteens. Don't let the age range discourage your youth from joining! We’ll tailor activities and instruction to participants’ ages and group students with peers of similar ages whenever possible.

What Comes Next?

After registering for this workshop, register for Workshop #2: Preparing for Your First Pop-Up Market — November 14, 2026. Our second workshop will help students refine their business plans, understand pricing and expenses, practice their sales pitches, and prepare their vendor displays.

Together, these workshops are designed to help new BizKids work toward selling at a community event in December.

Registration & Parent Information

  • Registration is free, but space is limited to 15 youth.
  • Please register youth as the participant. Parents and guardians are welcome to stay, but do not need to register separately.
  • This is a classroom-style workshop with approximately one hour of seated instruction and activities.

About the BizKid Program

The Hayward Chamber of Commerce's BizKid Program, supported by grant funding from Amazon Web Services (AWS) helps young entrepreneurs develop business ideas, build practical skills, and gain real-world selling experience. Through workshops, mentorship, and community marketplaces, BizKids learn about entrepreneurship while connecting with other young business owners.

At our Junior Hayward Chamber of Commerce BizKid Marketplaces, vendor participation is free, and canopies, tables, tablecloths, and chairs are provided. Young entrepreneurs bring their products, supplies, and creativity!
